The bad seeds of low self-worth

Self-worth: the sense of value or worth you have as a person; the value you give to your life and your achievements.
Self-esteem: the confidence you have in your own abilities.
Assertiveness: a demonstration of confidence, skill, strength, character.
Self-respect: the pride and confidence you have in yourself.
Self-loathing: hatred of yourself.
Insecurity: uncertainty and anxiety about yourself.

We aren’t born with a side to us that beats ourselves up, or puts us down. So presumably this state of affairs must have come from somewhere external to us. If you agree with this notion it might be useful to investigate exactly where these bad seeds have come from – and then plucking them out of our minds, one at a time. Perhaps for every bad seed that is taken out of you and thrown in the bin, it can be replaced by a nurturing seed.

If you want any start-up hints and clues as to the origins of these seeds you might want to explore your parents, carers, relatives, teachers, siblings, friends, partners, peers, colleagues, strangers, adverts, ideology, the class system, racism, sexism, othering, normalising, conditioning, patriarchy, capitalism, behaviourism – and all other systems of cultural oppression, discrimination and inequality.
