Connectivity

Joni Mitchell wrote the following lyrics inspired by half a million people coming together for the 1969 Woodstock festival:

“We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden.”

If everything within the universe is made from the same substances, does it make sense that we might have profound and intense connections to much that’s around us: to other people, to trees, to the very air we breathe? Maybe this helps explain why we place such importance on bonds: we are all one. If you are hurt, I feel the hurt (at some level). If I break something, I feel bad. If the forest is on fire, I feel the destruction.
