The value of life

How comforting is it to know that night turns day and day turns night; that spring becomes summer, then autumn then winter? How comforting might it be to know that our stone-age ancestors recognised the passing of time and the ever-changing world around them, giving importance to when the sun was at its highest and lowest point in the sky? They aligned the heel stone to direct the solstice light into the heart of the henge.

How comforting is it to know that honouring the dead and celebrating life with some kind of gathering, some kind of ritual, has been going on in various forms right the way back to Neolithic times?
