Time travelling self

There are times in our life when we need help and support - sometimes we get it, sometimes we don’t. As time goes by what do you suppose happens to these younger selves that didn’t get a chance to be healed? They are still a part of us, even if we have moved on and become the lump sum of all our previous selves.

The idea behind time-travelling (intrapersonally) is a simple one. Our present self makes connections and keeps in touch with any of our past selves that we want to. Our vulnerable 13-year-old, say, or our happy-go-lucky 21-year-old self.

How do we do this? Well, just like how we can have internal dialogues between different parts of ourselves in the present moment, so can we have conversations with our younger self. So long as we take the time to remind ourselves of who they were and what was going on at that time, we will hopefully start to recognise their voice and/or get a sense of them. As to how the healing takes place? By giving them a platform to be heard. By validating their experience. By being supportive. By seeking to understand them. By letting them know how much you love them.

Time travelling support doesn’t need to be just one-way traffic. If the present you is going through a tough time, then why not call up a younger self that is strong and resilient and see if they can help you.

As to your future self, there are things that you can do right now that can help plant the seeds to a better quality of life in: continue to understand yourself, take care of yourself, look out for yourself at all times, as well as stay friends with yourself and your past selves.
