News from nowhere
Utopia: an imaginary place that is ideal for the imaginer to live in.
In 1890 the artist William Morris wrote a utopian book in which he explored a fantasy future world where there was no ownership of land, no private property, no authority, no prisons, no cities, no money, no over-production and hence no waste. Instead, art, work and everyday life were intertwined and infused with creativity, pleasure and nature.
Unless we can image an alternative to something that exists, how can we ever hope to move on and progress? With this in mind, would it be a useful exercise to draw up your own paradise, your own notion of something close to perfection?
